The 24-month Criminal Justice program at the Birmingham Virginia College location is designed to prepare you to pursue a career in the criminal justice field, working in public service or for private organizations. Our instructors have years of experience in a variety of criminal justice arenas and their outstanding work and community service has earned them various awards.
You will be able to receive hours of hand-on experience with our dedicated crime scene room and get to explore the SmartDraw computer program, a drawing software program that allows you to create legal diagrams suitable for courtroom use. You will have the opportunity to go on field trips and learn from a variety of guest speakers on a regular basis, from judges and police officers to security experts.
As a criminal justice student, you will participate in an externship course with local law enforcement or another organization. The Criminal Justice program tries to match externships with student interests. You also have the opportunity to volunteer at local criminal justice employers such as Alabama Legal Aid and the Alabama Sheriff’s Association to further resume building and establish contacts for your job search after graduation.
