Paralegal Studies - Birmingham, Alabama
Associate of Science
Paralegals are a crucial part of any law office. If you are looking for a career where you can positively affect the lives of others and start a fulfilling career, join our 24-month Paralegal Studies Associate of Science program!
Paralegals work in more than just attorneys' offices; they can also work in courtrooms, corporations, insurance companies, government offices and banks. At our Birmingham Paralegal Studies program we have designed a full curriculum to help you achieve a well-rounded education. You will have the opportunity to learn from instructors with years of real-world experience, work with several computer software programs and have access to the Birmingham Virginia College law library and law computer lab.
Our Paralegal Studies program has been designed with the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) certification at its core. We include the cost of the first attempt at satisfactory completion of the NALA certification exam in your tuition and include a certification review course in the curriculum so you can enter the exam feeling confident. Successful completion of the NALA Certification Examination may give you a competitive edge when looking for your career after graduation.
As a student of the Birmingham Paralegal Studies program you will have the opportunity to participate in an externship for a full quarter at the end of the Paralegal Studies program. You can choose to participate in an externship in private law or a corporation depending on your interests. Although the paralegal externship is an elective and not a required course, it can provide valuable real-world experience and help create contacts useful after graduation. Graduates of this program have been hired by their externship company and gone on to work at places like Haskell/Slaughter and Wettermark & Keith, LLC.
