Prepare for a culinary career in just 36 weeks! Culinard, the Culinary Institute of Virginia College in Birmingham, offers hands-on training from internationally-trained chef instructors, all with at least 10 years of experience in the industry. Our culinary arts program gives you an intensive education in food preparation with realistic training in modern, fully equipped teaching kitchens.
This culinary arts program offers practical training that follows the guidelines of the American Culinary Federation. You’ll have the opportunity to learn fundamental, intermediate, and advanced culinary skills, and find out how to make a living doing what you love. Our fast-track culinary program covers fundamental cooking principles, teaches advanced culinary and fundamental pastry skills. It also provides real-world experience through an externship at a Birmingham-area catering firm, restaurant or resort.
Culinard participates in a number of community events, and throughout the intensive cooking school program, you may have the opportunity to volunteer with Culinard faculty members at these special functions to learn the catering business first hand. These special training events might include Chefs for the Cure, Break ‘n Bread, Birmingham Zoo benefits and more. Additionally, at the end of your third term, you will prepare a buffet for family and friends, working with your classmates to plan, prepare and present the meal in its entirety.

We offer small class sizes, flexible morning or afternoon scheduling and a focus on practical, real-world training.
