Duties of a Pharmacy Technician
As a pharmacy technician, you will perform a variety of duties under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Our pharmacy technician curriculum will help prepare you for these duties, including how to take patient information, count or pour medications into dispensing containers, manage the cash register, package and label prescriptions, keep inventory and conduct other routine pharmacy tasks.
Our 15-month training program will help give you the skills and knowledge you need for a successful career as a pharmacy tech. You'll benefit from expert instructors with years of experience in the field, personalized attention and an on-site pharmacy lab with the same setting you'll find in an actual pharmacy.
We'll Help You Get Ready for Certification Exams
Your training will also prepare you for the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (CPhT). Though certification is not required to work as a pharmacy technician in Louisiana, it does underscore the quality of your academic training and your commitment to your career. It can also help you stand out to prospective employers. A one-time testing fee for this exam is included in Virginia College tuition. Virginia College tuition also includes pharmacy technician graduates' immunizations, books and state board licensing fees.
Your Externship Will Help Prepare You for Pharmacy Technician Jobs!
One unique aspect of the pharmacy technician diploma program at Virginia College in Shreveport/Bossier City is our 180-hour externship. You'll spend that time working in at least two different practice settings such as a retail pharmacy or a hospital supervised by and learning directly from experienced pharmacists and pharmacy staff members.
