Virginia College DMS Students Walk for Children's Hospital

Posted: Monday, May 11, 2009

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Society at Virginia College's Birmingham, Alabama, campus recently sponsored participation and gathered to "Walk a Mile in Their Shoes," a charity event that helped raise money and awareness for the CHIPS foundation.

Children's Hospital Intervention and Prevention Services (CHIPS Center) is a place where child abuse victims can come for help and healing and provides hope and treatment to children who are abused. Several sponsors walked over a thousand miles. The DMS students were able to join them for the last mile of their walk and to donate additional money for the cause.  They were also treated to a wonderful meal and live entertainment along with a tour of the CHIPS center.

The CHIPS counselors spoke about what they encounter with abused children and how rooms in the center are designed to fit a certain criteria for how serious the abuse is.  Although it was an emotional event, the students from Virginia College were proud to sponsor and participate in such a wonderful benefit.
