Virginia College/Montgomery Holds First Graduation Ceremony
Posted: Monday, September 28, 2009
A packed auditorium heard speakers and watched as the first graduating class of the Virginia College location in Montgomery, Alabama, walked across the stage to accept their diplomas. The occasion was covered by The Montgomery Advertiser, who wrote an article that can be read HERE.
The graduate address was delivered by Acquecentania Lumpkin. She told the reporter, ""It's exciting! I'm proud of the faculty and staff at Virginia College. They kept me motivated to graduate."
She said that she is finishing with more than her degree in medical billing and coding. She also gained the encouragement to further her education. Lumpkin is a wife and mother of three who worked full-time, took care of other family members, and commuted to school from a town 25 miles away. Still she managed to maintain a 3.47 grade point average and complete her degree. She said doing all of those things and going to school let her know that she could do anything she put her mind to, and now she is pursuing a nursing degree at Virginia College while she works in her new career.
"If you put your mind to it you can excel at anything," she said.
