Virginia College Criminal Justice Students Get First-Hand Experience

Students from the Criminal Justice programs at two Virginia College campuses recently took part in very realistic drills with local law enforcement, search-and-rescue personnel, and corrections facilities.
Students at Virginia College in Biloxi, Mississippi, were a part of a disaster simulation drill in Harrison County, staged by local law enforcement and search-and-rescue groups. The drill simulated a tornado in the area and the search for "victims," some of whom were Virginia College students. The rescuers also went over drills for terrorism, crime scene and missing person searches. The volunteers include the Community Emergency Response Team or CERT. CERT is made up of everyday people trained to help their neighbors after a disaster until professional help can arrive.
