New Virginia College In Jacksonville Opens Doors
Posted: Thursday, April 2, 2009
The new Virginia College in Jacksonville campus and career center has officially opened its doors to the public and will begin classes on Monday, April 6, 2009.
The school, which will provide students with skills training specific to businesses in Jacksonville and surrounding areas, is located at 5940 Beach Boulevard.
"We expect to graduate 400 well-trained students each year when all programs are in place," says Campus President, Donald J. Newton. "Graduates from Virginia College in Jacksonville will be productive employees in several key industries and will boost the local economy by working in hospitals and other medical facilities as well as salons and businesses."
The new campus will emphasize technical programs in the medical sector -- medical assisting, surgical technology and pharmacy technician -- in addition to programs such as medical office management and medical billing and coding. Government statistics indicate these are among the fastest growing career fields, both nationally and locally. The school will also offer cosmetology and aesthetics programs. A salon, which will open May 12, will offer student salon services to the public.
Construction of Virginia College in Jacksonville began in early 2008. The new campus, which is the 11th location to open nationwide, represents a $5 million remodeling investment.
