Virginia College Named "Military Friendly School"

Posted: Thursday, August 6, 2009

Director of Admissions Jim Branham (left) and campus president Harvey Giblin proudly show the plaque designating Virginia College as a "Military friendly school."

Virginia College and Golf Academy of America are receiving national recognition for its efforts to serve the educational needs of active duty U.S. military, veterans, and dependents.  Most recently, G. I. Jobs magazine designated Virginia College's Austin, Texas, campus a "Military Friendly School" for 2010.  According to the magazine, "This honor places (Virginia College) in the top 15% of all schools nationwide."  It goes on to say, "Your steadfast commitment to educating our great nation's military veterans will enable the United States to prosper for generations to come."

Campus president Harvey Giblin says, "We are proud to receive this recognition, and it directly reflects our increased commitment to the success of our military and veteran students."

The schools recently launched a web site directly aimed at assisting active duty military, veterans and dependents in finding the best educational options for them and to navigate the various government plans.  The schools have also opened and staffed a Military Student Center where those interested can speak directly with experts on what can be a very confusing area.

Giblin notes, "Our campus and most of the other Virginia College and Golf Academy schools are located in areas with large military and military retiree populations.  Plus our on-line programs are available worldwide, wherever the students live, work or serve our country.  Our motto is 'From honorable service...to career success,' and we are proud to be able to help our military transition back into civilian life."
