Virginia College in Montgomery Hosts Emergency Case Simulator (ECS) Workshop

Posted: Wednesday, February 10, 2010

An Emergency Care Simulator (ECS) Workshop (the ECS is also known as the human patient simulator) was held recently at the Virginia College Montgomery, Alabama, campus.

The purpose of the workshop was to provide participants the opportunity to learn how to use the software that operates the simulator as well as provide a hands-on experience in working with the mannequin. In addition, the workshop provided an introduction into the integration of the simulator into all nursing courses within the Virginia College nursing programs system-wide.

A METI consultant from the University of Manitoba provided in-depth discussions and demonstrations of the simulator's features. The use of high-technology combined with a non-threatening learning environment creates a realistic clinical setting for nursing and allied health students while at the same time strengthens their critical thinking skills required for safe, effective patient care.

Participants in this two-day event included nursing program directors, faculty, and allied health representatives from Mobile, Birmingham and Montgomery Virginia college locations.
