The Associate Degree Nursing students at the Birmingham campus of Virginia College held their first Health Fair on December 8, 2009 in the nursing skills lab. Participants in the health fair included students, faculty and staff from the campus and members of the community. Screenings performed under the supervision of the nursing faculty (JoAnn Henley and Felicia Popee) included blood pressure and glucose testing and self-breast examinations.
Educational information was also distributed related to diabetes, breast cancer, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, and heart disease. Stephanie Mitchell, Nursing Program Director, reports that she is exceptionally proud of the progression and skills demonstrated by the fourth quarter nursing students.
