Rapid Growth at Education Corporation of America Fuels New Hires, Promotions

Recent rapid growth at schools owned and operated by Birmingham, Alabama-based Education Corporation of America (ECA) has led to a number of new hires at its corporate office as well as several promotions from within. To help with managing the growth in personnel, three of the additions and promotions are in the company's Human Resources Department.

Executive Vice-President of Human Resources and Employee Development, Mike Williams, says, "Our company continues to have success enrolling and graduating students, starting new schools, and growing the organization. This has resulted in growth across the board and our employment now exceeds 2,000 employees. Along the way, we have successfully recruited, started, and promoted over 1000 employees in the first half of 2009.

Joy Service has joined ECA as Manager, Learning and Leadership Development. She previously held human relations and training posts at such companies as Walt Disney World, HealthSouth Corporation, and Regions Financial Corporation. Ms. Service holds a bachelor degree from UAB and is a past President of the Birmingham chapter of the American Society for Training and Development.

Kimberly Cummings has been promoted to a corporate role as Recruiting Manager after serving as Director of Career Services at Virginia College, Huntsville campus. Prior to joining Virginia College, she worked as Director of Public Relations & Marketing in the healthcare field and as a recruiter for Baywood Technologies. She holds a bachelor degree from Jacksonville University and is nearing completion of her Master of Business Administration.

David Hauser is moving from a contract position to become Project Manager, Executive Recruiting. He brings an extensive background in the executive search field, including assignments as Director of Executive Search at Claddagh Resources, and Executive Recruiting Manager, PricewaterhouseCoopers. He also operated his own search firm as president of DEH Associates. He earned a bachelors degree from University of North Carolina--Charlotte and earned his Master of Business Administration from the Terry College at the University of Georgia.

In other personnel changes at the company:

Vanessa Elrod has joined ECA as Marketing Project Manager. Ms. Elrod previously worked as Marketing Communications Manager at EBSCO Information Services and as Marketing/RFP Specialist at Emageon, Inc., both in Birmingham. She earned the Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Journalism and the Master of Science degree in Agricultural Business and Economics from Auburn University.

Dr. Dagoberto Barrios has joined the ECA academic team as Director of Allied Health Programs, serving all Virginia College locations. Dr. Barrios will transfer from the Virginia College campus in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he taught various medical courses. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and his Bachelor of Arts degree in theology and business administration from Walla Walla College in Walla Walla, Washington.

Charlie Leslie has been promoted to the position of Assistant Controller for Education Corporation of America. Leslie joined the company in October 2007 as a Senior Accountant.
