Accreditation and Approvals

Accreditation is granted to institutions, such as Virginia College, that have been evaluated across a wide range of educational criteria and meet or exceed the stated standards of educational quality, so you can have confidence in the education you are receiving.

Virginia College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to award diplomas and associate’s degrees.

The Surgical Technology associate’s degree program is accredited upon recommendation by the Accreditation Review Committee/Surgical Technology, Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA) through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Graduates are eligible to take the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), the successful completion of which is required for employment as a Surgical Technologist in the states of Idaho, Indiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

The following accreditation applies to Surgical Technology program in Jackson, MS

The Surgical Technology associate’s degree program is accredited upon recommendation by the Accreditation Review Committee/Surgical Technology, Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA) through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). The program has been placed on Probationary Accreditation as of January 16, 2018. Graduates are eligible to take the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), the successful completion of which is required for employment as a Surgical Technologist in the states of Idaho, Indiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

Programmatic Disclosure Information for Surgical Technology

Austin, Texas 

The Associate of Science in Respiratory Care Program at Virginia College - Austin holds Provisional Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (www.coarc.com). This status signifies that a program that has been granted an Approval of Intent has demonstrated sufficient compliance to initiate a program in accordance with the Standards through the completion and submission of an acceptable Provisional Accreditation Self Study Report (PSSR), completion of an initial on-site visit, and other documentation required by the CoARC. The conferral of Provisional Accreditation denotes a new program that has made significant progress towards meeting the Standards of Accreditation. The program will remain on Provisional Accreditation until achieving Initial Accreditation. It is recognized by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) toward eligibility to the Respiratory Care Credentialing Examination(s). Enrolled students completing the program under Provisional Accreditation are considered graduates of a CoARC accredited program.

Virginia College is currently authorized to operate campuses in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. The College will continue to monitor developments in state law in each state in which it enrolls students. If authorization of licensure is or becomes necessary, Virginia College will obtain such additional approvals.
