Career Tips

5 things to keep you motivated as you make a life change

5 things to keep you motivated as you make a life change

When it comes to school and a career, not everyone finds the right path the first — or maybe even the second or third—time around. While you can't go back in time, you can commit now to building a better life for you and your family. It's never too late to make a change! But change isn't always easy, so you'll need to stay motivated.

Here are five things to remember to keep your spirits up as you start a new journey:

Change is a choice.
No matter where you are today, you can decide to make a change. As author and motivational speaker Zig Ziglar said, “You must make a choice to take a chance or your life will never change.” If you feel stuck in a rut without a job or with a job that feels like it's going nowhere, make the choice to change.

You can do it.
If you believe that you can, and you're willing to work for it, you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. Having confidence in yourself is half the battle. Put your fears on hold and go for it. You never know until you try.

Hang in there.
Perseverance is key. It's the stick-to-it attitude of forging ahead despite difficulty that will help you reach your goal. Know what you want, believe in yourself, and keep your eye on the prize! With perseverance, your dream can become a reality.

Ask for help.
Asking for help along the way doesn't show weakness. Quite the opposite! Why tough it out alone when you can have the benefit of people who have been in your shoes and understand what you're going through? Wisdom and guidance from others can give you the strength you need to succeed.

Find your fan base.
Many people fail because they lack support. Tune out the negative people and identify the ones who believe in you and keep you motivated. You can keep sight of your goal — and reach it.
