Our Dental Assistant diploma program can provide you with the relevant training, knowledge and skills you'll need to assist dentists with patient care. The duties of a dental assistant are diverse, designed to support the dentist and include performing a range of daily activities such as:
Dental assistants often perform administrative duties to help maintain an efficient, productive dental office. Your training will include classes in dental office procedures such as taking inventory, managing patient records and communicating verbally and through written correspondence.
Qualified graduates from this program may be eligible to complete the mandatory Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) short course approved by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE). This course includes certification to perform radiologic procedures. Upon successful completion of TSBDE-approved RDA short course and registration process, graduates will be qualified to take x-rays in a dentist's office. Certification or licensure examinations vary by location. Please see the campus course catalog to determine which certification or licensure exam(s) may be available at your campus location.
An 11-week externship is part of this Dental Assistant curriculum. You'll be supervised by a dentist or other dental professional and learn in a real workplace setting while getting on-the-job training.
